When teaching English to those for whom it is not the primary language, it is important to be sensitive to their needs. You should realize that, for many of them, learning the language may seem frustrating and hard. A lot of things about English don’t make sense. If my recent Saturday jaunt in the hills of Colorado is any indication, there are a boatload of people who love to get out and tromp around our lovely state.I was up at Guanella pass last Saturday and I had it in mind to knock off Mount Bierstadt, one of our lovely high peaks as a day hike.  I got up good and early and was at the trail head 70 miles west of Denver by 6:30AM.  To my utter astonishment, the place was already crawling, and I do mean crawling with people.  I counted over 300 cars in the parking lot and spilling out all over the road’s dirt shoulders.It was an absolutely lovely clear morning in the mountains with temperatures scheduled to be in the low 70’s at 10,000 feet.  Everyone seemed happy and ready to hit the trail to the summit.  I prefer my mountains with a dash of solitude so I headed exactly the opposite direction to try my hand at Mount Square Top, trudged to the top by noon and had a smashing view of the surrounding countryside while I scarfed up my trail lunch.I’ve often thought that when crunch time came, people would put the great outdoors at the bottom of the list in terms of things they would cherish and protect.  If last week was any indication, I think we’re in pretty good shape. I am a senior in college and unlike most of my close friends I just got married. We’ve been out doing wraparounds for the video magazine today in the park. Glen thought that since the episode is about public service cutbacks, it might be nice to do the intros in a public park and remind people of some of the benefits of state funding to the local area for parks and recreation.

We’ve gotten some pretty unintentionally funny clips. Judy was being dive bombed by a bird of some kind at one point and she completely lost her composure. I’ve never seen her do that before. I have recently been learning how to play the guitar. I think that I have pretty good handle on it but I am still not great at it. I would like to do something to improve my skills.
